Everything in moderation: SPCA Cupcake Day!

For all you budding home bakers out there, now’s the time to dust off your chef’s hat, bake cupcakes and make a difference! This August 27 is SPCA Cupcake Day; a day for you to do your part to help raise funds for the SPCA and make a lot of animals (and tummies!) very happy.

All you have to do is bake some delicious cupcakes, hold a mini bake sale to sell your delicious baked treats, and donate your raised funds to the animals in need. Last year, more than $220,000 was raised for SPCA centres nationwide.

SPCA’s National Chief Executive Robyn Kippenberger can’t thank the public enough. She says, “Over 60,000 animals come through our 47 Centres’ doors each year, some in desperate need of medical attention and all requiring a huge amount of time, love and care – which ultimately costs a lot of money.

“SPCA Cupcake Day is a great way for the public to get involved in a tasty campaign that not only raises much-needed money and awareness, but also brings together New Zealand communities.”

How do I get involved?

Register at www.spcacupcakeday.co.nz to be a ‘Cupcake Cook’ for the annual SPCA Cupcake Day fundraiser where you bake, sell, and raise much-needed money for the SPCA and the animals in its care. After registering, you can download your ‘Cupcake Kit’ from the website and get inspired. Check out some of the amazing photos from last year’s Cupcake Day on this page!

As we’re caring New Zealanders and this is all about raising funds for animals, the SPCA recommends Cupcake Cooks use SPCA Blue Tick eggs in their cupcakes. These cage-free eggs come from hens that are farmed humanely – happy hens make happy eggs! 🙂

There’s a baker inside everyone, so get involved and help support a great cause – your friends, customers, school or workplace – and the animals of NZ will love you for it.
